MIA

Last weekend I dropped off the face of the earth and am now about 4 videos behind on my cover a day extravaganza.  Cleaning and organizing my room (while unearthing a LOT of dust) has put my body on full-on emergency mode, resulting in a lot of sneezing, coughing, wheezing, not being able to breath, and other terrible things to boot.

(Hopefully) I'll have a cover song and my room organized and cleaned out by the weekend. Stay tuned!

Dream a Little Dream

Day 9. Didn't do a cover yesterday... oops.  Hope my video today makes up for that! I did a cover of Dream a Little Dream on the ukulele. Enjoy:

I submitted my applications for Columbia and Oregon today. I feel like the weight's been lifted off my shoulders and can now thoroughly enjoy the weekend. Woot! Back to work next week for my NYU and application and fellowship/scholarship search.

Have a great weekend!

Cover Song Days 7 & 8

Day 7.  I swear I tried to upload this video last night, but the site was being uncooperative and would not allow me to do such a thing... so I like to think a get an A for effort in my losing battle against the internets.
I forgot I had this little gem of a song until yesterday! The title's quite catchy isn't it?  In reality I only say the word 'boobs' twice throughout the whole song and it's not really a song dedicated to boobs. It's just a really fun song to play. I promise I'll do this song again in the near future... I don't really know if I did this song justice (I just drove from LA to SD and back in the span of 5 hours and was incredibly exhausted and dehydrated)
Boob Song (Priscilla Ahn):

Day 8. Yes! I made it past week 1! I'm trying to learn to play a bunch of other songs as I upload this video, so I should be good for another week.  The song I chose to do today is called Saddest Song in the World by Meiko.  While I basically play about four chords over and over again, I still found the song a little challenging since the chords require my hand to stretch further than it would like to go. In any case, here's my eighth song cover:

Saddest Song in the World (Meiko)

My applications are due this weekend! I'm submitting them by Friday just so I feel better and can enjoy the weekend. Submitting these two will take a lot of weight off my shoulders as I have another 3 weeks before my NYU and UPenn applications are due.  But for now I'm still a ball of stress trying to perfect everything!

Dance Me To The End Of Love

Day 6. I thought I had more songs in my repertoire but clearly I was mistaken. Without counting piano song covers (I need to figure out where in my house I can place my piano and record) I've run out of songs I could somewhat play and sing in five days. How depressing.  Now I'm left with songs I can only half play or half sing well... I'll get working on them, I promise. My fingertips are in that awkward transition into callous territory and are really hurting so my guitar's playability decreased significantly within the last 24-48 hours.

Well anyway, I'm cheating once again and putting another song Jo and I did while he visited. It's another Civil Wars song called Dance Me To The End of Love:

Over half my day will be spent in San Diego tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll find some time to do a cover.

T minus 5 days until my first round of applications are due... can I freak out just a little?

Wallflower

Day 5 of my cover song bonanza and I did another Priscilla Ahn song. This one's called Wallflower. Everything was going smoothly until I realized I forgot the last two lines of the song and had to guess, so pardon the awkward shifting :).

I was terribly unproductive over the weekend, so I have to triple my productivity and efficiency tomorrow.  Thank you Roadhouse Coffee (an independent coffee shop on Las Tunas and Rosemead) for providing me the free internet, caffeine, and ambiance that's fueled my productivity last week... I will see you again bright and early tomorrow.

Find My Way Back Home + What Are You Doing New Years

I didn't post a cover song yesterday! I know! But I also have a really good excuse, I swear!

To make up for this horrible deed I decided to do TWO songs today!  The first one if Priscilla Ahn's Find My Way Back Home and the second one is What Are You Doing New Years Eve (and oldie sung by many artists but recently made popular by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Both songs were sung with a ukulele but you'll hear a pretty big difference in the way I sing the two songs. (Hint: I'm trying to sound as grown up as possible in What Are You Doing New Years Eve)

T minus 7 days until my first two applications are due. It's time to bring my A game!

Reasons to Love You

Day 2 of my cover song extravaganza. I decided to do a cover of Meiko's Reason To Love You.  The finger picking was a little tricky, but I powered through it.   My fingers are in more pain than I'd like them to be.... I think tomorrow calls for a song with piano accompaniment.

A little update on my grad school applications:

  • I am one coffee shop visit away from having a personal statement ready for round two of editing.
  • I just finished my academic resume and professional resume/CV for Columbia (and let's be honest, I'm using it for all my applications).
  • Tonight I'm filling out my FAFSA and getting the financial stuff out of the way
As means to get myself to be more productive while feeling less stressed, I've not only been making big lists of things that need to be done, but I've been setting small but significant goals for myself to accomplish by the end of the day.  It really keeps me in line and less stressed!

Goals for tomorrow:
  • Finish my personal statement
  • Call Oregon and give them a piece of my mind
  • Order transcripts to be sent to schools that still need them
Back to work!

Mountain and The Sea

After about two hours of trying my best to not suck, I came out with a shaky first video cover.  Forgive the terrible guitar playing, but I haven't played my guitar in a VERY long time and the strings were killing my fingers.  Also, forgive how pitchy I am most of the time... sitting on my bed is probably not the best way to sing.  Oh, and don't mind me awkwardly staring into the camera- I didn't know the words/chords well enough so I was just staring into the screen the entire time.

Without further ado, here I am doing a cover of Mountain and the Sea by Ingrid Michaelson:

Please be kind- I haven't played guitar in an embarrassingly long time.

Back to my applications!
